About

Randall Michelson is a photographer based in Los Angeles. Over the last 20+ years, he has established a unique visual style across the disciplines of many kinds of photography: Artistic, Architectural, Commercial, Portrait and Concerts.

In 2015-2016, Live Nation and the Wiltern Theatre commissioned a series of 35 large-format prints of significant artists and moments photographed by Randall since 2002. These framed photographs are the foundation of RockPhotoShop -- along with his images from other venues including the Greek Theatre, SXSW, The Forum, Hollywood Palladium and many others.

His association with the Wiltern goes back to the 1980s, when one of his first professional jobs was the architectural restoration of the Wiltern by the Ratkovich Company. The finished product photographs, made overnight for several days on 4x5 film, helped establish his reputation in the business. His background in architectural photography influences the concert photos, along with his background as a roadie for Alice Cooper when he was in his early twenties.

"The challenge of concert photography is to sum up, in one frame, the essential message of a musical artist, their look, their style and most importantly, what they mean to their fans. This includes their impact on the culture and the crowd they are in front of, as well as their historical importance. It's a lot, admittedly, but that is the goal."

"There are many ways to make a photograph work, and my aim is to explore all of them." -- Randall Michelson
